Hoosiers Fall, 3-0, to Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - In the third conference match of the campaign, Head Coach Katie Weismiller's volleyball squad dropped to 6-8 on the season and 0-3 in Big Ten play when Michigan State captured the win, 3-0 (30-27, 30-27, 30-22) on Friday night at the Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Mich. The Spartans improved to 6-5 and 1-2 in conference action.
Senior Katie Pollom paced IU with a match-high 18 kills on 37 attacks for a .270 clip when attacking the Michigan State defense, while classmate Christina Archibald drilled nine kills. Additionally, sophomore Tasha Arsenych assisted on 33 kills for the Hoosiers, while classmate Sara Diehl had 12 digs.
In game one, the Spartans out-hit IU, .378 to .226, to claim a 30-27 triumph over the Hoosiers to take a 1-0 lead in the match. In game two, Indiana put the clamps down on the Spartans to hold them to .213 hitting. MSU, however, responded with a solid defensive effort of its own to keep IU down to just .143 hitting to claim a 2-0 lead. Michigan State then put the match away with a blistering .455 percentage in game three to clinch the contest, 3-0.
Senior Kim Schram and junior Brooke Langston paced the Spartans with 17 and 10 kills, respectively. Langston connected at a .643 clip, while Schram registered a .275 hitting percentage.
Next up, the Cream and Crimson remain in Michigan to battle with the Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
