DeMuth Named Preseason Big Ten (10-13-04)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana senior forward Jenny DeMuth has been chosen to the 2004-05 Preseason All-Big Ten team as selected by the media the conference office announced today.
In 2003-04, DeMuth was a second team All-Big Ten honoree selection by the media, and earned third team All-Big Ten accolades as selected by the conference coaches. The Highland, Ind., native was the highest-scoring non-senior in the Big Ten last season and was the only conference player to rank in the top five in the Big Ten in both scoring and rebounding. She ranked fifth in each category with 18.3 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game, respectively. DeMuth finished the season with 532 points, a mark that ranks fifth in school history. In addition, she eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring mark for her career on Feb. 19 against Michigan, becoming the 18th player and only the eighth junior in school history to accomplish the feat.
"If Jenny can match what she did last year and play with even more confidence, she is in store for some pretty brilliant things for her senior year," said Head Coach Kathi Bennett. "She is very deserving of this honor, and I am excited to see her play in her final year as a Hoosier."
As far as team selections, the Big Ten women's basketball coaches selected Ohio State as the preseason favorite, while two-time defending Big Ten Tournament Champion, Purdue has been tabbed the preseason front-runner by members of the Big Ten media.
The Hoosiers will officially get their season underway this Friday, Oct. 15, when they hold their first practice of the 2004-05 season as part of the annual Midnight Madness festivities.
