IU falls to Purdue

The loss drops the Hoosiers to 8-6-2, and 3-5-2 in the Big Ten, while Purdue improved to 8-8-0, 4-6 in the conference. With the win, the Boilermakers also retained the "Golden Boot" for the fourth straight year.
"It was a tough game for us," said head coach Mick Lyon. "I thought we practiced hard all week and were ready, but we did not get the job done."
After a scoreless first period, Purdue got on the board in the second as Rebecca Robison notched a goal from 15-yards out, just to the left of Fabbro
IU had an opportunity to tie the score late in the game, but sophomore Lauren Lamping's shot was just wide left at 88:01, while senior Kim Grodek nailed a shot that just went over the crossbar at 89:44.
Indiana out shot Purdue 17-15, including an 8-3 advantage in the second period. The Hoosiers also owned a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
With the loss, IU dropped to eighth in the conference and will face Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, held at Ohio State from Nov. 3-7.
"We just have to learn from this game and move on," said Lyon. "We did not play well at all and we only lost 1-0."
The Cream and Crimson return to action on Sunday, Oct. 24, as the Hoosiers travel to Chicago for a nonconference match-up with DePaul. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
