Indiana Falls to No. 2 Minnesota, 3-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head Coach Katie Weismiller's volleyball squad opened up a two-game homestand by falling to No. 2 Minnesota, 3-0, to drop to 7-13 on the season and 1-8 in Big Ten play. The Golden Gophers claimed the 30-28, 30-15, 30-22 triumph on Friday night in Bloomington, Ind., at the University Gym to improve 19-2 overall and 8-1 in conference action.
Senior Christina Archibald notched her 34th double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs to pace IU in both categories. Freshman Christine Nilles also tallied 14 digs, while sophomore Tasha Arsenych served as Indiana's primary setter with 32 helpers to her credit. Freshman Lauren Ditteon tied her career highs with five block assists totaling five blocks in all.
In game one, Indiana battled Minnesota by holding the Golden Gophers to just .132 hitting in the first frame that featured eight tied scores and three lead changes. Unfortunately, Minnesota pulled out the 30-28 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second stanza, the Golden Gophers scorched IU's defense to out-hit the Hoosiers, .436 to .075, to win the game, 30-15, and extended its lead to 2-0.
In the third and decisive game, Minnesota closed out the match, 3-0, with a .317 hitting clip against IU's .089 success rate to win the frame, 30-22. The Hoosiers battled in the game to force three ties and three lead changes before succumbing to the highly-ranked Golden Gophers.
Senior Erin Martin paced Minnesota with 13 kills, while junior Paula Gentil served as the Golden Gopher's primary defender with 23 saves. Senior Trisha Bratford dominated the net with three solo blocks.
Next up, the Cream and Crimson tangle with Iowa in the University Gym on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
