ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Indiana senior Jakub Praibis and freshman Michael McCarthy advanced to the round of the 16 in the main draw at the Intercollegiate Midwest Regional Men's Tennis Championships on Saturday afternoon on the campus of the University of Michigan.
Praibis, the top-seed in the tournament, defeated Andrew Roth of Notre Dame, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4), in the first round and Minnesota's Adrien Debreyne in the round of 32, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
McCarthy continued his impressive play on Saturday. He won three matches to advance through qualifying on Oct. 21-22, and beat Parker Ross of Butler (6-4, 6-4) and Wisconsin's Jeremy Sonkin (6-4, 6-4), today, to move on to the final 16. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native is now 8-0 on the fall season.
Senior Ryan Recht lost to No. 14 Damar Johnson of Louisville, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, and senior Neil Kenner dropped his first-round match, 6-4, 6-3, to No. 15 Stephen Bass of Notre Dame.
