Head Coach Mike DavisHis take on the first few practices:
MD: "I think everything has gone well early on. Today was the first day we went up and down scrimmaging for 20 minutes. It was basically what you expect out of a first scrimmage. We showed some good effort, and from a communication stand point, they are talking a lot more on the court."
MD: "We tried a lot of different combinations out there. Ryan Tapak did a good job. I think Marco (Killingsworth) did a good job causing havoc in the middle and you have to help out inside against him, but that is no different then what we will be facing in a game, and having a big guy in practice will help us."
Junior Guard Bracey Wright
On the addition of Rupp and Marsh as assistant coaches:
BW: "They bring the knowledge of what it is on the next level. What we need to do to play on that next level, and how to prepare ourselves to play on that level."
On how playing in the summer has helped him:
BW: " I think it is going to help me a lot. Timing, conditioning, confidence, just being able to play all those games, it is really a rhythm that is created. When you play a whole season and then you bring it to a halt in the summer, you have to pick it back up you lose a lot of rhythm. Being able to play in the summer allows you to keep that rhythm that you built going."
Freshman Guard/Forward Robert Vaden
On why Saturday's scrimmage is important:
RV: "We expect to go out and play like it is another team. Today was the first day we really scrimmaged against each other, but I think it is good for us to build some team chemistry by scrimmaging; running up and down the court like it is a real game. It will help us develop as a team a lot.
Junior Guard Marshall Strickland
On the early season schedule:
MS: "Most important thing is for us to come out strong. If we come out relaxed then we will fall into a hole. After last year I think we are ready for the challenge. It is the best thing we can do is go out and prove ourselves. Playing and beating those teams will show people that we can play with those teams."
On the confidence level of the team:
MS: "We are very confident. I think as a team we lost some confidence last year. When you lose a lot of games, things tend to fall apart, but the mentality of this team is a lot tougher."
