Head Coach Gerry DiNardo Quotes
On Minnesota's running game:GD: "I think that the running game starts with players. The offensive line is one of the best in the conference, perhaps in the country. The two running backs that they have are two of the better running backs in the league. They are very well-coached, and it's a very well conceived scheme."
On Minnesota's running backs Marion Barber III and Laurence Maroney:
GD: "They are both outstanding running backs. I don't want to separate them by saying that one does something better than the other. They are really good."
On the development of talent within the program:
GD: "Philosophically, whether it's the beginning, middle or end of the year, whether you are winning or losing, you are always looking for opportunities to develop your program in the years to come. It doesn't mean that you are being unfair to an individual or putting a game or season at risk. I have been doing that for the last seven games. Every chance I get, if I'm not being unfair to a player, I will develop the future of the program."
On Courtney Roby:
GD: "His leadership has been terrific. I think one of Courtney's great attributes is that he identifies what his weaknesses are and really works on them. He has a great work ethic at practice. He has given us we what really need offensively and that is explosiveness."
On Roby's focus toward the team away from his records:
GD: "I think that was why he was elected captain by his teammates. It is no surprise that he answered the question about the record the way he did. When I hear him answer that question [about receiving yardage record], I think he feels like most people would in that situation. I think he will feel down the road that this is a great honor, but he would have liked to have won the game."
