Overton Named Golfweek's Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's golf standout Jeff Overton was named Golfweek magazine's Player of the Week for its Oct. 23-30 issue. The senior All-American candidate earned the honor after shooting a 61 (-11), the second-lowest score in NCAA history, en route to an 11-stroke victory at the Xavier Invitational (Oct. 11-12).
With the 61 (11 birdies, one eagle), Overton carded a new 54-hole IU record at 24-under-par 192 following rounds of 65 and 66 on day one. He shattered his old mark of 199 set at the 2003 49er Collegiate Classic.
"We are all very proud of Jeff and what he has accomplished," said Indiana head coach Mike Mayer. "To shoot 24-under in a tournament and 11-under in one round is a milestone. It is a well-deserved honor for Jeff."
Additionally, Overton led the Hoosiers to a 21-shot victory for their second straight Xavier title.
Overton closed out the fall with a tie for fourth place at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge (Oct. 25-26), his fourth straight top five finish. He led the team with a 69.85 scoring average in five fall events (13 rounds), lowering his career mark to a school record 72.00.
