BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana will continue its Big Ten slate of games this Saturday, Oct. 28, against the No. 23 Minnesota Golden Gophers at 1 p.m. EST/CDT at Memorial Stadium. The game will be carried live on the IU Radio Network with Don Fischer (play-by-play), Dan Thompson (color) and Joe Smith (pregame, halftime, post-game).
Minnesota enters the contest with a 6-2 overall mark and a 3-2 Big Ten record after blanking Illinois, 45-0, last weekend in Minneapolis.
Sophomore punter Tyson Beattie, senior quarterback Matt LoVecchio and junior running back Yamar Washington sat down to discuss this weekend's game.
On the importance of the kicking game:
TB: "Coach puts a lot of intensity on the kicking game. With our team extremely balanced, we need to be good in special teams, so we put a lot of time and emphasis on special teams. All the effort that the coaches put in as well as the players is great, and we are really making a lot of strides with it."
On how special teams will factor into the Minnesota game:
TB: "They are real good on offense, so we are going to have to pin them back. If I get chances to pin them inside the 20, I want to keep doing that and just make them go a distance on offense."
On playing Minnesota:
ML: "We just have to go out and continue to work hard this week. We have a couple of days left to prepare, so we need to take that time and be the best football team we could be on Saturday."
On the confidence level of the team:
ML: "The confidence is good. The coaches and the players are really stressing how we go out and handle ourselves and be the best team we can be. Win lose or draw, we are going to fix our mistakes and improve as a team."
On first-down efficiency:
ML: "First-down efficiency is very important to any football team. We put a major emphasis on it. Staying on schedule on offense and not putting yourself in third and long situations and getting positive yardage on first down for this game is really important."
On the importance of Courtney Roby:
ML: "Courtney is great. He is one of the leaders on and off the field. He is just an explosive guy on the field and such a major part of this football team."
On the confidence level of the team:
YW: "Its nothing that anyone one else has done, its little things that we have done ourselves. Our confidence is still high, but we just have to pay attention to details, avoid penalties and all the stuff that kills you in the Big Ten."
On being home this weekend after two tough road games
YW: "Its great not having to get on a bus and travel anywhere. It's homecoming. Hopefully we will have a large turnout and get a victory in front of our fans.
