• Indiana held Michigan to 93 rushing yards last weekend. It was the first time that the Hoosiers have held an opponent under 100-yards since Aug. 8, 2002, when William and Mary finished with -32 yards on the ground.
• Senior wide receiver Courtney Roby needs only eight receptions and 209 yards to become IU's career leader in both categories.
• IU has three touchdowns this season of 90-plus yards. This is the first time in the history of the program that this feat has been accomplished. The 1945 Hoosiers team was the last to score two touchdowns over 90 yards in the same season.
• The IU defense forced three fumbles and recovered two against Michigan, bringing its season total to 14 forced fumbles, with seven recoveries, and seven interceptions. The Hoosiers have only turned the ball over on eight occasions resulting in a +6 turnover ratio. In 2003, the Hoosiers forced 20 turnovers and had a turnover margin of +3.
• Sophomore punter Tyson Beattie's 32-yard rush on a fake punt in the first quarter against Michigan was his first rush since an 18-yard scamper against Purdue on Nov. 22, 2003. For his career, Beattie now has two rushes for 50 yards.
• Indiana has scored 50 of its 137 points this year following an opponent turnover. The Hoosiers tied a school record with seven turnovers against Oregon, converting them in 20 points.
HOOSIERS RANKED AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS
According to the latest NCAA Division I football statistics as of Oct. 3, the Hoosiers rank first in the country in kickoff returns, with an average of 34.43 yards per return. IU ranks 18th in turnover margin at 1.20 and 31st in punt returns (11.70 per return). Lance Bennett ranks fifth in the nation in kickoff returns (33.58 per return) and Tracy Porter is 15th in the country in interception average (.60 per game). Courtney Roby is 20th in the country, averaging 88.40 receiving yards per game.
RUSHING AROUND
Matt LoVecchio finished with 13 rushing attempts against Michigan. It was the most rushing attempts since his career high of 14 on Nov. 8, 2003 against Illinois. LoVecchio had 13 attempts once before in his career, during the 2000 season against Stanford, while he was at Notre Dame.
AMONG BIG TEN LEADERS
Junior linebacker Kyle Killion is second in the Big Ten Conference in tackles per game, averaging 10.8. He is also second in the conference with 8.5 tackles for loss. Killion ranks in the top five, fourth overall, in sacks with three. Senior safety Herana-Daze Jones and junior linebacker Paul Szczesny rank ninth and 11tth in the Big Ten in tackles per game with 8.6 and 8.4, respectively. Sophomore defensive end Kenny Kendal, senior defensive end Victor Adeyanju and Jones are tied for the Big Ten lead with a pair of forced fumbles. On the offensive side of the ball, Courtney Roby is fifth in the Big Ten in receiving yards (88.4) and fifth in receptions per game (5.20). BenJarvus Green-Ellis is fifth in the league, averaging 81.2 rushing yards per game.
RED ZONE EFFICENCY
The Hoosiers are converting 83.3 percent (15-for-18) of their chances in the red zone. IU was 4-for-5 against Central Michigan, scoring 24 points. The Hoosiers were 4-for-4 at Oregon and 2-for-2 at Kentucky. The Cream and Crimson was 3-for-4 against Michigan State. Against Michigan IU was 2-for-3 with a pair of touchdowns.
ROBERTSON NEARLY PERFECT
Place kicker Bryan Robertson has connected on 18-of-19 field goals from 40 yards or under. For his career, he has hit 28 of his 41 attempts, with a career-long of 50 yards at Purdue in 2002. He is one of eight kickers in the history of IU football to connect on a field goal of 50 yards or more.
