Hoosiers Downed by No. 9 OSU, 3-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In the initial home conference match of the season, Head Coach Katie Weismiller's volleyball squad ran into a red-hot No. 9 Ohio State team to drop to 6-10 on the season and 0-5 in Big Ten play. The Buckeyes earned a 3-1 triumph (30-22, 30-20, 27-30, 30-19) on Friday night at the University Gym in Bloomington, Ind. The Buckeyes improved to 15-0 and 5-0 in conference action.
Seniors Katie Pollom and Christina Archibald paced IU with 11 kills apiece. Pollom was everywhere as she connected at a .364 clip, had a dig and six block assists, while Archibald nearly notched her seventh double-double of the season with nine digs and two block assists. Freshman Lauren Ditteon drilled 10 kills of her own for a .296 hitting percentage along with three digs and a pair of block assists. Sophomore Tasha Arsenych served as IU's primary setter with 37 helpers.
In game one, the Buckeyes out-hit IU, 367 to .133 to claim a 30-22 victory over the Hoosiers and take a 1-0 lead in the match. In game two, there was more of the same for the Cream and Crimson as OSU put up a .400 clip against IU's .194, for a 30-20 triumph to extend its lead to 2-0.
Coming out of the break, the Hoosiers put together a stifling defense to clamp down on the Buckeyes. Additionally, Indiana lit up Ohio State's defense to the tune of a .359 hitting percentage against OSU's .200 effort. The 30-27 performance cut the Buckeye lead down to 2-1. Unfortunately for the Cream and Crimson, Ohio State put away the contest 30-19 to claim a 3-1 win in the match.
Senior Stacey Gordon led the Buckeyes with 29 kills and 14 digs, while freshman Danielle Meyer put away 17 kills and classmate Ami Stevens knocked down 11 of her own. Additionally, sophomore Marisa Main posted 58 assists, while freshman Brittany Dahms recorded 14 digs.
Next up, the Cream and Crimson play host to No. 6 Penn State in Bloomington on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in the University Gym.
