In the 31st minute of action, IU took a 1-0 lead with junior Lesley Wiler's third goal of the season off an a assist from Meredith Brown.
In the second half, New Hampshire tied the game up at one as Katie Wright scored off a penalty corner from MacKenzie Stuart in the 44th minute.
O'Connell scored the game winning goal as she came out of a scramble in the circle with the ball and placed it past UNH's goalkeeper Christine Buckley.
For the game, IU out shot the Wildcats, 14-8 including 8-3 on shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Katie Kanara had two saves.
"Coming off of a disappointing game yesterday, we wanted to come out and be aggressive for 70 minutes of play." head coach Amy Robertson said. "We wanted to use the entire field and make good passes. We stayed tough and played as hard as we could. I thought we showed some mental toughness. I was very pleased with the play of our bench, they came in and made some key contributions."
The Hoosiers are idle until Oct. 19, when they travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami (Ohio) at 5 p.m.
