IU Falls to No. 6 Penn State, 3-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In its second consecutive battle against a ranked opponent, Head Coach Katie Weismiller's volleyball squad came up short against No. 6 Penn State, 3-0, to drop to 6-11 on the season and 0-6 in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions claimed the 30-15, 30-24, 30-15, triumph on Saturday night at the University Gym in Bloomington, Ind., to improve to 14-1 and 5-1 in conference action.
Senior Katie Pollom paced IU with 11 kills and a .320 hitting percentage. Sophomore Tasha Arsenych had 26 assists, while freshman Christine Nilles accumulated 11 digs.
In game one, Penn State out-hit Indiana, .314 to -.031, to captured the 30-15 victory over the Hoosiers and take a 1-0 lead in the match. In game two, IU improved its hitting percentage to .289, but could not overcome PSU's .359 clip as the Nittany Lions took a 2-0 lead in 30-24. Penn State closed out the match, 3-0, by overpowering Indiana, .386-.047, and win the decisive third game, 30-15.
Senior Ashley Pederson led a trio of Nittany Lions with double-digit kill efforts after drilling 13 kills. Sophomore Kim Holm added 11 kills, while freshman Kate Price put away 10 of her own. Junior Sam Tortorello served as PSU's primary setter with 37 helpers.
Next up, the Cream and Crimson head back on the road with an Oct. 15 match-up at Wisconsin in Madison at 7 p.m., before tangling with Northwestern on Oct. 16 in Evanston at 7 p.m.
