BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana sophomore safety Will Meyers has been named to the Academic All-District V Football Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The accounting major has started three games this season and recorded 15 solo tackles with four assists. He had a season-high five solo tackles and three assists at Kentucky on Sept. 18.
"I live a very structured life so it's pretty easy to balance school and football," Meyers said. "Whenever I'm not working on football, I'm working on school work or when I'm not studying, I'm on the football field or watching film. I try to keep a good balance and stay focused. It's mostly about time management."
An athlete must have a grade point average of 3.2, be in his second year at their institution and play in over 50 percent of the team's games to be eligible for the award. The Academic All-District selections will appear on the national ballot and are voted on by member of CoSIDA. The Academic All-America team will be released on Monday, Nov. 22.
The Chesterfield, Mo., native made an immediate impact in 2003, earning first team Freshman All-American and Big Ten Defensive Freshman of the Year honors from The Sporting News. Meyers ranked third on the team with 83 tackles (65 solo). His two sacks were good for third on the team as well. Meyers forced four fumbles on the year and finished with 3.5 tackles for loss. Meyers exploded onto the scene in his second game at the collegiate level, registering 13 tackles, forcing a fumble and recovering a fumble at Washington on September 6. From there, he went on to force at least one fumble in each of the team's next three games.
Meyers and the Hoosiers will host Penn State on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 12:10 p.m. in their home finale.
