Overton Ranked No. 1 in the Country

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the second straight season, Indiana men's golf standout Jeff Overton has ascended to the top spot in the collegiate golf rankings. The senior from Evansville, Ind., is ranked No. 1 in the latest Golfstat rankings
"What else is there to say about Jeff Overton? He continues to build an incredibly impressive resume. He had an outstanding fall and deserves the ranking. Jeff is the best player in the country," said Indiana head coach Mike Mayer.
The highlight of Overton's fall campaign came when he fired a final-round 61 (11 birdies, one eagle), the second-lowest score in NCAA history, en route to an 11-stroke victory at the Xavier Invitational (Oct. 11-12).
At the event, Overton carded a 54-hole IU record at 24-under-par 192, following rounds of 65 and 66 on day one. He shattered his old mark of 199, set at the 2003 49er Collegiate Classic and propelled the Hoosiers to a 21-shot victory for their second straight Xavier title.
Prior to Xavier, Overton finished runner-up at the Central Regional Preview at Notre Dame and at the Adams Cup at Newport, R.I. At the Adams Cup, Overton was 5-under-par through 13 holes when a fog rolled in, suspending the remainder of the round and preventing him from claiming his seventh career championship.
The All-American candidate closed out the fall with a tie for fourth place at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge at Bandon Dunes, his fourth straight top five finish.
He led the team with a 69.85 scoring average in five fall events (13 rounds), lowering his career mark to a school record 72.00.
