BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's basketball team continued its training on Tuesday, November 16. The Hoosiers finished their exhibition season with two victories and will look to continue that momentum a week from today, November 23, as IU opens its season against in-state rival Indiana State.Here are a few comments from Tuesday's practice by head coach Mike Davis along with sophomores Errek Suhr and Pat Ewing Jr. and junior Marshall Strickland.

Looking back at the defense against SIUE:
MD: "In the first half we came out and really tried to fight on the defensive end but in the second half we just stopped communicating on defense."
On what he saw on the offense on tape against SIUE:
MD: "We missed a few screen opportunities. Our guards missed a few open shots. It was a good game for us to watch on tape and see the mistakes we are making."
On the length of time between exhibition games and opening day:
MD: "I would rather play right away. At first, I liked having the extra number of games, but now I wish we would have played a game this weekend. It does give us a time to just get some extra practices and conditioning in."
Errek Suhr

Looking back at the SIUE tape:
ES: "When it comes to execution, its about not relaxing and going at things at a faster pace. Coach says we are relaxing too much and playing to nonchalant, so if we can get that fixed we will be in good shape."
On the length of time between opener and exhibition:
ES: "I think we needed some work still. We still have a lot of work to do and a lot of improvement to make. The more time you have to work on things, the more prepared we will be."
Marshall Strickland
Jr./Guard
On the SIUE exhibition:
MS: "We were not as aggressive as we should have been. We missed a lot of shots and I think just being more aggressive we would have created more opportunities for easier shots. Defensively we played a good game in the first half and held them pretty well, but they kept running their offense pretty efficiently. "
On Indiana State:
MS: "They are a real good team. We have been preparing for it, especially with our intensity trying to get it up higher then it already is."
On playing in-state schools:
MS: "One thing I learned is that they are very hungry. They look at the schedule when it comes out and they see the game here and they want to come here and beat us."
Pat Ewing

On the team heading into the first game:
PE: "I think we are pretty set so far. There are a lot of things that we worked on and will continue to work on and get better at, but I think we are ready. Watching a few games on TV has made us even more anxious and I know everyone is ready to go."
On SIUE exhibition:
PE: "It showed us that we need to concentrate on defense a lot more. We need to dig down and fight."
What he needs to work on after playing the two exhibition games:
PE: "My defense. I can't allow my man to get the ball in the post. I have to be more vocal and get in the right spots on the court."
On the importance of starting off strong:
PE: "It's always important to get on the right track with opening day . We have two games at home to begin with and we need to come out and play hard because anything can happen. After that, I feel like we have a chance at winning every game, but we just need to come out with intensity and play hard."
