BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana will travel up Interstate 65 to battle in-state rival Purdue on Saturday, Nov. 22, at noon in West Lafayette. It will mark the 107th meeting between the two schools and the 80th duel for the Old Oaken Bucket. The game can be heard live on the statewide IU Radio Network with Don Fischer (play-by-play), Dan Thompson (color commentary) and Joe Smith (pregame, halftime and postgame).
This game is not being televised, so the only place to watch will be on ESPN Broadband. ESPN Broadband showcases the fastest, high-quality sports video online and is normally only available to internet users whose high-speed data providers have signed an agreement with ESPN. For this Saturday only, ESPN Broadband is providing a special link which will make the site available free to Indiana and Purdue football fans.
HOOSIER NOTES:
***Junior linebacker Kyle Killion intercepted a pass and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown. It marked his second interception this season, third of his career and first career touchdown return. With Killion's interception return, the Hoosiers have now scored four defensive touchdowns on the season. It marks the first time in school history Indiana has scored four defensive touchdowns in a single season. The Hoosiers generated at least three defensive touchdowns during the 1994, 1996 and 2002 seasons.
***Senior wide receiver Courtney Roby ran for a 26-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The rushing touchdown was the second of his career, and the second in as many weeks. The Indianapolis, Ind., native has a team-high eight touchdowns on the 2004 campaign. Although Roby failed to have a reception in the game, the first time in 16 contests, he rushed for a career-high six carries and 36 yards.
***True freshman cornerback Leslie Majors tied his career-high with seven tackles. Majors has played in four games this season and registered seven tackles in three of those four. Against the Nittany Lions, he also had a career-high six solo tackles.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
Purdue is 6-4 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten after a 24-17 home win over Ohio State on Nov. 13. After sitting for the first three quarters, senior quarterback Kyle Orton threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman tight end Dustin Keller with 2:17 to play to lift the Boilermakers. Orton, who started the game on the bench with a hip injury, was inserted into the lineup in the fourth quarter after sophomore starter Brandon Kirsch threw an interception.
Purdue opened its season with five straight wins, including a 2-0 start to Big Ten play. The Boilermakers struggled, dropping their next four conference games, before beating the Buckeyes last Saturday.
Orton has completed 180-of-288 passes on the season for 2,287 yards and 22 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He is averaging a conference best 254.1 yards passing per game and 254.3 yards of total offense per game.
Senior wide receiver Taylor Stubblefield is leading the team and is second in the conference with 87.6 receiving yards per game. He has corralled 12 touchdowns on the year. Junior running back Jerod Void is averaging a team-best 56.6 yards on the ground.
On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore linebacker George Hall has a team-high 80 tackles on the season. Junior Brandon Villarreal has 12.5 tackles for loss and four sacks from his defensive tackle position. Sophomore defensive end Anthony Spencer has added six and a half sacks, while fellow class and position mate Ray Edwards has chipped in with six.
