Four Hoosiers Honored by Big Ten

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana senior wide receiver Courtney Roby, senior safety Herana-Daze Jones and junior linebacker Kyle Killion were recognized as second team All-Big Ten selections by the Conference media and honorable mention selections by the Conference coaches, the Big Ten was announced Tuesday. The trio is the first All-Big Ten selections (first or second team) for the Hoosiers since 2001.
Additionally, senior tight end Aaron Halterman was selected as Indiana's representative for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award (each team had one honoree).
During his senior campaign, Roby etched his name in the Hoosier pass-catching record book. With his 79 receiving yards at Ohio State on Oct. 23, he broke Ernie Jones' (1984-87) all-time yardage mark of 2,361. Roby finished his career with 2,521 receiving yards for his career. With his eight catches at Northwestern on Oct. 9, he broke Thomas Lewis' career mark of 148 and closed his career with 170 grabs as a Hoosier.
He became the first IU wideout since Bob Stephenson (1979-81) to lead the Hoosiers in receiving for three straight seasons. The Indianapolis native finished third in the league with 55 receptions, seven touchdown receptions and 7.45 receptions per game. He also finished fourth in the Big Ten with 810 yards, an average of 73.6 yards per game.
Jones wrapped up his career with his biggest season as a Hoosier, ending the year third in the Big Ten with a career-high and team-leading 110 tackles (70 solo, 40 assist), an average of 10.00 per game. An all-around leader on the defense, Jones picked off a pair of passes, forced two fumbles and recovered one fumble. He was a honorable mention selection by the media last season.
The Louisville, Ky., native was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for games played the weekend of Sept. 11, after Indiana's upset victory at No. 24 Oregon. With Indiana leading 30-24 late in the fourth quarter, Jones intercepted Oregon quarterback Kelle Clemens' pass with 3:42 to play in the final quarter. Oregon had been driving down the field and had the ball on the IU 16-yard line. Jones added 9 total tackles, including one for loss, and a fumble recovery in the game.
Following a breakthrough 2004 season, Killion showed he is capable of leading the Hoosier defense next season. He garnered career highs in tackles with 106 (73 solo, 33 assist), tackles for loss (16.5), sacks (5), interceptions (2) and forced fumbles (2). Killion also led the team with two fumble recoveries and tackles for loss while ranking second in tackles, sacks, interceptions and forced fumbles. The Kingwood, Texas, product was second in the Big Ten with his 16.5 tackles for loss and fourth in the Conference with his 106 tackles, an average of 9.6 per game.
In IU's 30-23 win over No. 23 Minnesota on Oct. 30, Killion intercepted a pass and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown. It marked his second interception on the season, third of his career and first career touchdown return.
The Big Ten announced the "Sportsmanship Award Honorees" for the first time this season, and Halterman earned the honor for Indiana. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Halterman was the team's starting tight end the past four seasons. The Greenwood, Ind., native started IU's first nine games this season before suffering a season-ending injury. He closed out his career with 69 receptions for 711 yards and three touchdowns. Halterman appeared in 44 games during his career, starting 35 of those contests.
