Sophomore Tasha Arsenych could be found all over the floor as she nearly netted a triple-double. IU's setter posted 44 assists, a career-high tying 12 digs and a personal-best eight kills. Most remarkably, she almost had a quadruple-double with seven total blocks on the evening. Senior Katie Pollom led a trio of IU players with double-digit kill totals by putting away 17 kills, while senior Christina Archibald notched 11 kills and freshman Lauren Ditteon drilled 10. Freshman Juli Pierce served as the primary defender with 20 saves, while Arsenych and Pollom each had seven total blocks.
Additionally, Archibald became just the fourth Hoosier to post 1,000 kills and digs in her career with her first dig of the night. At the end of the evening, the senior standout stood at 1,788 kills and 1,007 digs for her career.
The first frame proved to be the most exciting of the match as the Hoosiers and Wildcats traded the lead six times and knotted the score on 18 occasions. In the end, Indiana took a 1-0 lead with a 31-29 win after out-hitting Northwestern, .226-.170.
In the second stanza, the Wildcats responded with a 30-25 triumph for a 1-1 match stalemate, before the Hoosiers jumped back out to a 2-1 lead with a 30-26 victory. In the third game, Indiana scorched Northwestern with a .344 hitting clip, while holding NU to just .157 hitting.
In the fourth frame, the Wildcats countered to deadlock the match 2-2 with a 30-26 win in a game that provided five lead changes and eight ties. The Hoosiers, however, battled in the fifth game, but could not overcome the Wildcats to fall 16-14 in the decisive frame and drop a 3-2 heartbreaker.
Lindsay Anderson paced a pair of NU hitters with 20-plus kills by putting away 28 balls, while Courtnie Paulus notched a double-double with 24 kills and 21 digs. Drew Robertson added a double-double of her own with 65 assists and 24 digs.
Next up, Indiana closes out its season with Wisconsin at 7 p.m., on Nov. 27 in the University Gym in Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers will also honor out-going seniors Archibald and Pollom with Senior Night festivities prior to the contest.
