Hoosiers Fall to Spartans

Indiana got onto the board first in the first half as sophomore Morgan Miller scored her sixth goal of the season off of assists from sophomore Lydia Schrott and freshman Meredith Brown in the sixth minute of action.
Three minutes later, Michigan State tied the game at one as Maggie Gidden scored off of an assist from Michelle Huynh-Ba.
In the 21st minute, All-Big Ten selection Veerle Goudswaard scored on a breakaway to give MSU a 2-1 lead.
Each team battled to a scoreless second period as Indiana had chances to score late in the period but was unsuccessful. In the final minute of action, IU was awarded a penalty corner and given a chance to tie the game and force overtime. IU got off numerous shots in front of the net but the Michigan State goalkeeper was able to defend the pipes.
"In the first half," head coach Amy Robertson said, "We did a good job of attacking and controlling the ball. We did a great job of sticking to our game plan. In the second half we were a little out of sync. We kept knocking on the door till the very end of the game."
Senior goalkeeper Katie Kanara recorded two saves in a losing effort.
"Katie played fantastic today," Robertson said, "She did a great job of keeping us in the game, by making key stops. She played her best game of her career."
Despite the loss the Hoosiers not only recorded the best record in school history but broke numerous team and individual records, including goals, assists and shots on goal, while Frederique Meeuwsen broke the school-record for goals in a season with 10 and Schrott broke the record for the most assists in a season with 11.
