MSU Drops IU, 3-1

Senior Katie Pollom led a trio of IU players with double-digit kills after putting away 15. Senior Christina Archibald drilled 13 kills, while freshman Lauren Ditteon tallied 10 of her own. Additionally, sophomore Tasha Arsenych posted 37 assists, while freshman Juli Pierce recorded 14 digs and three aces.
In the first frame, Michigan State out-hit the Hoosiers, .375-.235, to jump to a 1-0 lead with a 30-26 triumph that featured three ties and two lead changes.
In the second stanza, the Spartans took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 30-23 victory on the strength of a .219-.125 hitting percentage margin in the most competitive game of the contest. The two squads combined for five ties and three lead changes in the second game.
Indiana dominated Michigan State in the third game with a 30-25 win to cut the gap to 2-1. In the frame, the Hoosiers vaulted out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back as they held the Spartans to just .109 hitting.
Michigan State, however, retaliated in the fourth frame with a decisive 30-22 conquest to close out a 3-1 victory over the Cream and Crimson.
Senior Kim Schram paced MSU with 25 kills, while freshman Katie Johnson added 12 of her own. Freshman Maggie Griffin served as the primary setter with 50 helpers, while junior Marley Bellwood kept the floor clean with 20 digs.
Next up, the Cream and Crimson closes out its four-match homestand with a mid-week tilt against in-state rival Purdue on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m., before hosting Illinois on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. Both contests will take place in the University Gym.
