After losing nine letterwinners from last season's squad, the Indiana baseball team welcomes 17 newcomers this season. In the coming weeks we will feature each IU newcomer leading up to the team's Feb. 22 opener against DePauw. The first Hoosier in the spotlight is infielder Tyler Cox.
Cox, a 6-0 middle infielder from Georgetown, Ind., was a three-year letterwinner for Casey LaDuke at Floyd Central High School. An all-conference selection, Cox closed out his career with a .360 batting average and was selected for the Indiana High School Coaches' Association Junior Showcase. Also a football player, Cox was a four-year starter at quarterback. He played summer baseball for the Floyd County Heat. The son of Jeff and Claudia Cox, Tyler has one sister, Krysten, and one brother, Matt.
HEAD COACH BOB MORGAN ON COX:
"Tyler is a good, solid baseball player who knows how to play the game. He is another good athlete who has the versatility to play many different positions."
COX ON CHOOSING IU:
"I chose Indiana because it offers a great baseball program and an academic environment that will bring out the best in me. I also felt very comfortable around the coaches and players."
