No. 13 Indiana Inks Two In Fall

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head Coach Ray Looze and the Indiana University men's swimming and diving program announced the signing of two student-athletes for the 2005-06 academic year. A.J. Miller (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) and Steven Murry (Memphis, Tenn./Gateway Christian) will look to impact Indiana beginning with the 2005-06 campaign.
Miller, a three-time All-American from Goshen, Ind., led Northridge to three straight sectional titles and four consecutive conference championships during his prep tenure. Additionally, Miller earned all-state and all-conference recognition his past three seasons. Meanwhile, Miller holds his school record in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke events. Away from the pool, Miller is a swim instructor for special needs children, while also garnering the Most Improved GPA award his sophomore year.
"A.J. Miller is one of the top swimmers coming out of Indiana this year." Looze said. "This marks the third year that we have attracted one of the best in-state swimmers and this is a trend we hope to continue. A.J. is extremely versatile and should help the team immediately at the Big Ten level and eventually at the NCAA level. He will swim IM, breast, back and free for the team."
Murry, another multiple-event swimmer from Memphis, Tenn., led Gateway Christian to a fifth-place finish at the 2001 Tennessee State Championships. Additionally, Murry picked up second place in both the 200 IM and 500 freestyle at the 2004 state meet after finishing in third in both stroke in 2003. Meanwhile, Murry cleared the national cut in the 400 IM for his Excel club team in 2004, while also qualifying for Spring Nationals that same year. Individually, Murry also earned All-America consideration in the 200 IM in 2004. Additionally, Murry made an impact away from competitive swimming as a member of the yearbook staff and drama productions as well as life guarding at the Williamson County Indoor Sports Complex.
"Steven is one of the top IM swimmers coming out this year and will add to our versatile line up," Looze said. "He can swim 200 and 400 IM, freestyle and breaststroke. He will help the team immediately at the Big Ten level and has the possibility to reach an NCAA level by the end of his freshman year."
Next up, the Cream and Crimson travel to Key Largo, Fla., over Dec. 30-Jan. 05 for the holiday training trip with a day of competition on Dec. 30 at the Orange Bowl Classic. <~--http: graphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/ind/sports/m-swim/import/team-action2.jpg--="">
