BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana defensive back Tracy Porter was named to The Sporting News 2004 Big Ten All-Freshman Team as announced by the publication on Tuesday. Porter was one of two true freshmen to start for the Hoosiers this season.
The Port Allen, La., native started the first seven games of the season before being sidelined for the remainder of the year with an injury. Porter had a team-best three interceptions for 115 yards. He closed his campaign with 22 total tackles and six pass breakups.
Porter recorded two interceptions and two pass breakups in his first collegiate game against Central Michigan on Sept. 4. He returned one of those interceptions 96 yards for a touchdown. It was the third-longest interception return for touchdown in the history of IU.
He is the first true freshman since Greg Yeldell, who had five in 1998, to have three interceptions in one season.
