IU vs. Kentucky Game Notes

 For the first time since Jan. 1993, Indiana (2-3) faces three top 10 teams in a four-game stretch. No. 10/11 Kentucky awaits the Hoosiers on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Freedom Hall in Louisville.

 Through the first five games, Indiana is allowing just 62.2 points per game, the best opening five game defensive performance of coach Mike Davis' tenure and the seventh-best opening five game defensive stretch by an Indiana team in the last 25 years.

 Indiana freshmen Robert Vaden and D.J. White are two of the Big Ten Conference's top newcomers. Vaden is the only Hoosier to score in double figures in each of the first five games, and the duo combine for 21.2 ppg and 9.8 rpg. This accounts for 35 percent of the Hoosiers' offense and 29 percent of the rebounding.

 In the past three years, Jeff Newton and George Leach each ranked among the Big Ten leaders in blocked shots. White is following in their footsteps, tying his career high with five rejections against Notre Dame. He is the top freshman shot blocker in the league and second overall at 2.80 per game.
Vaden is the top freshman scorer in the league (12.2 ppg) and the second-best freshman rebounder (6.2). In addition, Vaden (11-of-13, .846) and White (15-of-18, .833) are sixth and seventh in the Big Ten, respectively, in free throw percentage.

 Sophomore forward Pat Ewing ,Jr. is key to the Hoosiers' success. The 6-8 Ewing is averaging nine points and six rebounds while shooting .636 (7-of-11) from the floor in Indiana's two victories. In three defeats, he is averaging 3.7 points and 5.0 rebounds while hitting .333 (5-of-15) from the floor.
