Indiana Drops Close Match to Louisville, 4-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky.— The No. 53 Indiana men’s tennis team dropped a close 4-3 match to regional rival No. 61 Louisville Friday afternoon at the Bass Rudd Center in Louisville.
With the loss, Indiana slips to 3-2 overall. Louisville bounced back from two-straight losses to improve to 4-4 on the season.
The Cardinals took the doubles point after sweeping the Hoosiers. Matt Mayer and Jeremy Clark paired to beat Ryan Recht and John Stone 8-6 at No. 1. Octavian Nicodim and Jakob Gustaffson rolled 8-4 over Jakub Praibis and Dymtro Ishtuganov. Johnson and Javier Herrera staved off IU's Ryan McCarthy and Neil Kenner 9-7 at No. 3.
In singles, junior Jakub Praibis continued his perfect campaign (5-0) after beating Octavian Nicodim 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1. Tom Bagnato was nipped by Jakob Gustafsson 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5. Sophomore Neil Kenner fell to Jhonny Berrido 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3. Johnson overcame McCarthy 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4 to win the match.
