Indiana Announces 2004 Signees (2-16-04)

Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team announced its 2004 signing class today. Head coach Amy Robertson received National Letters of Intent from six high school seniors: Meredith Brown (Elkton, Md./Cavavel Academy), Haley Exner (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch), Erin Isler (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), Kate O'Connell (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette), Amanda Oyler (Fleetwood, Pa./Oley Valley) and Margie Stoll (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) will be joining the Hoosier squad in the fall.
"We have a fantastic group of six individuals joining the Indiana field hockey squad for the fall of 2004," Robertson said. "This class is a very accomplished group of field hockey players ranging from High School All-Americans, U16 National Team, Players of the Year, First Team All-State and State Champions. We believe this group could be considered one of the top recruiting classes in the country. We were very pleased and honored that these wonderful people and field hockey players have made the choice to continue their field hockey careers at IU."
Meredith Brown
Elkton, Maryland/Cavavel Academy (Bear, Del.)
5'5 • Midfielder
Brown is a three-time All-State selection, twice as a First-Team member, a two-time South Regional All-American and two-time All-American selection, a First Team member her senior year. She served as captain during her junior and senior years, and during her senior year, the team was the state runner up.
Brown also served as a member of the Junior Olympics from 2000-03. During 2001, she was a member of the U16 national team. During 2002, she attended B Camp and was an alternate on the U20 national squad. During 2003-04, she was selected to attend A Camp.
Asked why she chose to come to Indiana, Brown said, "I fell in love with the atmosphere. The field hockey program is incredible, and I feel so privileged to become a Hoosier and be able to represent such an excellent school with such a competitive tradition."
Haley Exner
San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS
5'11 • Goalkeeper
Exner joins the Hoosiers after being named the San Diego Union Tribune Player of the Year in 2002 and 2003. She was a member of the West Regional All-American Team in 2002 and 2003. She holds the national high school shutout record with 67 career shutouts.
During her senior year, she served as captain leading her team to a perfect 25-0 record and captured the CIF State Championship. During 2002, she was selected to the NFHCA West All Region Team and selected to the USFHA Elite team.
When asked why she wanted to play for Indiana, Exner said, "I loved the campus, the people and the town. I felt that not only would I excel in the field hockey program, but in the classroom as well. The coaches, team and faculty made me feel at home, and I felt like it was the best choice for me."
Erin Isler
Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington HS
5'7 • Forward
During 2003, Isler served as team captain leading her team to the League Championship. She was also named to the First-Team All-League team. During the 2002 season, her team was regional champions and advanced to the Final Four.
Asked why she chose to come to Indiana, Isler said, "Indiana has everything I was looking for in both a school and a team. The field hockey program has many great things coming its way, and I'm excited to be a part of that."
Kate O'Connell
St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette HS
5'7 • Forward/Midfielder
O'Connell was the St. Louis Player of the Year and team MVP in 2003. She was a First-Team All-Conference selection all four years during high school, and a First-Team All-Metro selection the last three years.
When asked why she chose to come to Indiana, O'Connell said, "I liked the atmosphere of the team and coach, and it will challenge me both academically and physically."
Amanda Oyler
Fleetwood, Pa./Oley Valley HS
5'4 • Midfielder
During 2003, Oyler was a Pennsylvania AA All-State First Team selection and a member of the Futures Elite. Her team was the Berks County champions and the PIAA Class AA state runner up. Oyler was also a member of the U19 National Futures Tournament bronze medal team.
When asked why she chose to come to Indiana, Oyler said, "It seemed like the perfect place to call home for four years. Nothing compared to the IU team, coaches and its program. I immediately felt welcome."
Margie Stoll
St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall
5'7 • Midfielder
Stoll comes to Indiana after serving as the team captain during 2003. She received MWAA All-Conference Honorable Mention honors in 2002 and 2003 and All-Metro Honorable Mention honors in 2003.
When asked why she wanted to play for Indiana, Stoll said, "I absolutely fell in love with the school and especially the girls on the team. Every single girl made me feel so welcome, and the coaches also made a huge impact on me. I felt that Indiana was a place that I could grow as a player and as a person."
