Hoosiers Open Spring at the Central District Classic

The Indiana University women's golf team will open its spring season at the Central District Classic. The River Wilderness Golf and C.C. will host the event Feb. 23-24, in Parrish, Fla.
The course will be setup as a par 72 and a yardage of 6,009 yards.
The 54-hole event will field 15 teams - Arkansas, Baylor, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas Christian and Wisconsin.
Ohio State is the defending Central District champion, with a 909 in 2003.
The tournament begins Monday with 36 holes being played beginning with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. The final round on Tuesday will will also be a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
The Starting Five
Seniors Karen Dennison, Danah Ford and Ambry Bishop and sophomores Lissa Putnam and Molly Redfearn will represent Indiana in the Central District Classic.
Tournament Format
Scoring for the Central District Classic will be five players with the low four scores from each round counting toward the team overall total.

"Quoting" The Coach
Indiana Coach Sam Carmichael: "It will be good to be outdoors playing and practicing for a few days rather than inside hitting into nets. Hopefully we can start well in Florida and go on to have a good spring season. The majority of the teams participating will be
like us, not having any outdoor practice time prior to this event."
Hoosiers to Watch
Senior Karen Dennison turned in a fall season finishing in the top-25 in all four tournaments including capturing her first individual title of the year and the fifth of her career at the Shootout at the Legends.
Senior Danah Ford challenged Dennison in every tournament during the fall finishing in the top-20 in every tournament. The Shootout at the Legends was a career tournament for Ford who tied a career low round-18 at with a second round 70, set a new career low round-36 with a 143 and lowered her career low round-54 by two strokes to 217. For the fall, Ford led the team with the lowest stroke average at 75.25.
Senior Ambry Bishop will mark her return to the lineup this spring after sitting out the Hoosiers final tournament of the fall. In each tournament during the fall, Bishop continued to lower her 54-hole totals. She dropped seven strokes from the Mary Fossum to the Lady Northern and five strokes between the Lady Northern and the Shootout at the Legends.
Sophomore Lissa Putnam saw action in the final three tournaments of the fall for Indiana. At the Shootout at the Legends, Putnam rallied from an opening round 85 to shoot 73-76 in the final two rounds.
Sophomore Molly Redfearn re-wrote her career records during the fall. She set a new low round-18 with a 72 in the first round, a new low round-36 with a 145 and a new low round-54 with a 221 all at the Shootout at the Legends. She also finished tied for 15th to post her career-best finish. Redfearn joined Dennison and Ford as being the only Hoosiers to play every round during the fall, finishing with a stroke average of 77.42.
A Ranked Field
The latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings that were released Feb. 14, has Indiana ranked 39th in the nation.
Joining Indiana in the Central District will be nine other teams ranked in the top-50 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. Host school, Michigan State leads the field being ranked 16th, followed by 24th-ranked Arkansas, 29th-ranked LSU, 33rd-ranked Texas A&M, 34th-ranked Baylor, 36th-ranked Northwestern, 38th-ranked TCU, 41st-ranked Kansas State, 43rd-ranked Nebraska and 44th-ranked Texas Tech.
Last Year At the Central District
The Hoosiers finished 12th with a 943 (318-317-308) in 2003. Karen Dennison was the Hoosiers' top finisher in eighth-place with a 225 (74-76-75). Danah Ford finished in a tie for 32nd with a 336 (80-81-75). Ambry Bishop is the only other Hoosier to have played in the Central District last year, finishing tied fir 53rd with a 242 (81-79-82).
