Houston, Texas - At last year's Texas A&M "Mo"morial Invitational, the Indiana University women's golf team battled tough weather conditions throughout the opening day. Heavy rains forced the tournament to be shorten to 36 holes and the Hoosiers wound up finishing fourth at 623.
At this year's "Mo"morial, the Hoosiers sit tied for second at 604 (299-305) after the first two rounds. Indiana is just two strokes back of the leader Missouri, and tied with Kansas for second.
Senior Karen Dennison paced the individual field and the Hoosiers throughout the day. Dennison carded an even-par 72 in her opening round, and stands 1-over-par at 145, in sole possession of the top spot. The Madison, Ind., native will look for her second win of the season tomorrow in the final 18 holes.
Sophomore Molly Redfearn is tied for 15th at 152 after two rounds of 76.
Senior Danah Ford had an opening round 77, then cut that by one-stroke in the second round with a 76 to place her tied for 25th individually entering the final round.
Senior Ambry Bishop gave a strong performance for the Hoosiers, carding rounds of 74 and 80 Monday to place tied for 35th at 154.
Rounding out the lineup for Indiana is Bethany Brunner at 165 (80-85) in a tie for 80th position.
Throughout the Hoosiers' campaign this year, consistency has been a struggle for Indiana, but that was not the case Monday at the Blackhorse Golf Club. Indiana shot its fourth under-300 round in 17 rounds.
Indiana will look to challenge for first position and its first win of the 2003-04 season tomorrow, as the "Mo"morial final round gets underway at 9 a.m. EST.
