Hoosiers Win the BU-Tapatio Springs Shootout

Boerne, Texas - Entering the final round of the BU-Tapatio Springs Shootout ahead by 10 strokes, the Indiana women's golf team extended it leads with a 305 for the championship. Indiana claims its first title of the season with a three-round total of 896 (297-294-305), good for 32-over-par and a 13-stroke victory over Missouri.
This is Indiana's first tournament win since the Hoosiers won the Lady Seahawk Invitational back on April 6, 2003 with an 885.
The Hoosiers were led by the senior duo of Karen Dennison and Danah Ford, who finished second and third, respectively. Dennison entered the final round in third-place, but carded a final round 73 to move into a second-place finish with 218 (73-72-73). The Madison, Ind., native has now finished in the top-25 in six of seven tournaments this season, including three finishes in the top-10.
Dennison was one-stroke back of the leader, Wisconsin's Malinda Johnson, who shot a third-round one-under-par 71 to win individual medalist honors with a three-round one-over-par 217.
Ford carded her seventh consecutive top 15 finish, shooting 219 (72-70-77). She closed the tournament with a final round 77, coming off the heels of an opening round 72 and second round 70, to lead the field entering today. The Indianapolis, native now has five career top five finishes, two this season, while setting a new personal low 36-hole (142) best.
Sophomore Molly Redfearn had a career best finish shooting a final round 76, good for a three-round total of 225(74-75-76) and a sixth-place finish.
Rounding out the Hoosier lineup were seniors Ambry Bishop and Mary Lidester
who finished tied for 45th. Bishop struggled in her final round carding an 84 for a three-round total of 239 (78-77-84). Lidester, again shot a 79 for her final round to finish with 239 (81-79-79).
Junior Bethany Brunner and sophomore Lissa Putnam playing in the Shootout as individuals, finished tied for 12th and 95th, respectively. Brunner shot her best round of the season 75, to finish 12th at 231 (78-78-75), and Putnam finished the final round with an 88 to finish the tournament in 95th at 255 (83-84-88).
IU looks to make it two straight victories when the Hoosiers host the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. The tournament will be held at the IU Golf Course on Saturday, Apr. 3 and Sunday, Apr. 4, 2004.
