Hoosiers Split Doubleheader with Drake

At the plate, the Hoosiers were led by catcher Tory Yamaguchi who was 3-for -6 on the day with an RBI. Shortstop Kim Richards, who has a five-game hitting streak, was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
On the mound, Mariangee Bogado got the loss in game one after pitching her tenth complete game of the season in seven innings with eight strikeouts. Megan Roark got her fourth win of the season in game two after pitching all seven innings and notching two strikeouts.
Game one was a pitching dual until the fourth inning when Drake’s Lindsay Larry got on base after being hit by a pitch. Right fielder Jenna Wilkin then hit a homerun to right field, putting the Bulldogs up, 2-0. Drake’s third run came in the seventh when third baseman Jamie Desjarlais hit an RBI single to right field, scoring second baseman Lauren Smith.
Indiana scattered three hits throughout the game but were unable to get a runner in scoring position.
The Hoosier bats came to life in game two. In the first, second baseman Ashley Griffiths reached on an error to start the inning and was sacrificed to second by Richards. Yamaguchi came to the plate and slapped a single to left, moving Griffiths to third. McCormack came to the plate and had a base hit to center, scoring Griffiths and putting the Hoosiers on the board. Bogado then came to the plate and hit a single to left, scoring Abby Page, who was pinch-running for Yamaguchi.
The Cream and Crimson got two more runs in the second. Right fielder Val White started the inning with a walk. The Hoosiers then had three straight base hits by Griffiths, Richards and Yamaguchi which brought two more runs across the plate and gave Indiana the lead, 4-0.
The Bulldogs answered back in the top of the third when center fielder Emily Hajduk homered to right. Drake tried to rally in the top of the seventh when first baseman Katie Wappler scored on a Hoosier error but it was not enough to secure the win.
“We did not come ready to give our best effort in today’s games,” said Indiana head coach Sara Hayes Nottger. “We saw two really good innings in the second game, but that was it. Tomorrow we need to come out ready to play and ready to hit the ball.”
The Hoosiers continue with their eight-game home stretch Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader against Indiana State. Game times are set for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
