Waldthaler Named POW

Bloomington, Ind. -- Junior Kandace Waldthaler was named Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division Player of the Week for her performance at the Aloha Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. She helped the Hoosiers to a 3-2-1 mark in bracket `A' of the Classic. The Fairfield, Calif., native scored 13 goals in the six games.
"Kandace had a terrific weekend," Indiana head coach Barry King said. "She has been adjusting to having to play against consistent competition. She has been working really hard and has developed into a solid threat for us on the offensive end."
Waldthaler netted three hat tricks on the weekend and scored a least two goals in five of the six matches. In the Hoosiers two collegiate match ups against No. 2 Stanford and No. 6 Hawaii, Waldthaler continued her scoring barrage. She scored five goals on only five shots in the two matches and converted both four-meter penalty shots she attempted.
For the year, Waldthaler ranks second on the Hoosiers with 20 goals. Over her last eight collegiate matches, she has scored 16 goals, including four hat tricks.
Waldthaler and the Hoosiers will compete in the second CWPA Weekend on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28. IU will play five conference games during the two-day stretch. On Saturday, IU will face Salem International at 11:15 a.m., Washington and Jefferson at 3:00 p.m. and Mercyhurst at 5:30 p.m. All three of those games will be held at Gannon in Erie, Pa. At 8:30 p.m., the Hoosiers will battle Penn State-Behrend at Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pa.
On Sunday, the Hoosiers will take on Gannon at 12:30 p.m. in Slippery Rock, Pa. Indiana enters the second CWPA Conference Weekend with a 2-1 mark in the Western Division.
