IU Set Three School Records

The Hoosiers' freshmen class was impressive on Saturday as the group scored 35 of Indiana's 68 goals, while assisting on 25 and making a total of 47 steals. Freshman Kara Woolley was solid all day for IU as she scored 12 goals including three hat tricks and a career best four goals against Salem International. She also tied the single-game school record for assists with five against Penn State-Behrend. Fellow classmate Kourtney Schepman was second on the team in scoring for the day as she netted nine goals on 13 shots, including a career high four goals against Penn State-Behrend.
Along with Woolley's school-record tying performance, the Hoosiers bettered the single game steals mark in the victory over Penn State-Behrend. IU ended the game with 26 steals improving upon the record of 25. The last time IU had 25 steals in a game was April 19, 2002 against Villanova. Senior Melissa Pietras, freshman Amanda Paul, junior Kandace Waldthaler and freshman Jaclyn Tameris each had four steals in the school-record performance.
In the opening victory over Salem International, 12 different Hoosiers found the back of the net as IU established a school record of 21 goals. Schepman and junior Krista Peterson each had a hat trick in the victory, while Woolley notched four tallies in the win. Woolley and fellow classmate Claire Nicholson each had three assists in the win.
Woolley completed the team-leading trifeca as she tied for the lead in steals with three. Tameris also had three steals in the Hoosier win. In just over two quarters of action, junior goalkeeper Jessica Goldner registered 11 saves while facing 15 shots.
The Hoosiers continued their scoring onslaught against Washington & Jefferson. IU scored the first nine goals of the match before the Presidents were able to score. After taking a 9-1 lead into the locker room, Indiana cruised to a 13-2 win.
Woolley once again led the Hoosiers in scoring with a hat trick. Peterson, Paul and Schepman each netted a pair of goals in the win. Pietras, freshman Kristin Zernicke and sophomore Emily Schmitt each had a pair of assists against W & J. Tameris once again led IU in steals with four.
In IU's final game at Grove City on the day, the Cream and Crimson downed Mercyhurst, 15-3. IU jumped out to a 12-0 advantage before the Lakers found the net. Sophomore Janis Pardy led the Hoosiers with a hat trick, while a quartet of Hoosiers, Woolley, junior Kandace Waldthaler, Schmitt and sophomore Clare Meadows, added a pair of tallies.
Pardy, Zernicke and Tameris each had two assists in the win as well. Tameris and Zernicke were also the Hoosier leaders in steals with four apiece. In three quarters of action on the defensive end, Goldner has eight saves against 13 shots and a pair of steals.
The Hoosiers were impressive on the defensive end of the pool all day as they totaled 87 steals, including three matches of over 20 steals. Indiana also allowed only eight goals on the day with four different Hoosiers finding time in the cage. Goldner had 27 saves on the day while only giving up three goals in just over 75 minutes of action. Sophomore Bridget McKeon had three steals and only allowed a goal in a little over two quarters of action. Meadows and senior Kristy Streefkerk each made a pair of saves in goal on the day.
All-American Krista Peterson finished the day a perfect nine-of-nine in limited action. Meadows had six goals in the four Hoosier wins, while Pardy added five tallies. Tameris finished the day with a team-leading 15 steals, while Meadows and Zernicke each had nine swipes.
Indiana will return to action tomorrow against Gannon. The match has a 12:30 p.m. start time at Slippery Rock. The Hoosiers are 4-0 all-time against Gannon. The Lady Knights enter at 14-2 overall and 5-1 in the CWPA Western Division.
