Overton Named Co-Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Golfstat's fourth-ranked golfer in the nation finished second at the Boilermaker, with a 54-hole, 7-under-par total of 209 (72-67-70), three shots behind Kane Webber of Colorado. He propelled the Hoosiers to a fifth-place finish in the 18-team event featuring 10 top 50, eight Big Ten, four top 25 and two top 10 teams.
"This is another well-deserved honor for Jeff," said Indiana head coach Mike Mayer. "Coming in second place in such a quality field and defeating 39 Big Ten players shows he's the class of the Big Ten once again. I'm proud of Jeff and everything he has accomplished."
The award is the junior's second Golfer of the Week honor this season. Overton earned his third career accolade after his performance at the St. Croix Collegiate Classic on March 5-7. He finished in a tie for fourth at the event, two shots behind Chad Spencer of Fresno State.
Overton was named Golfer of the Week in 2003 following a second-place finish at the Marshall Invitational and Co-Golfer of the Week after tying for second at the First Energy Intercollegiate in 2002.
This season, the Evansville, Ind., native has six top 10 finishes in eight events to go along with 17 career top 10's and a 69.65 scoring average.
Up next, Overton and the Hoosiers travel to Columbus, Ohio, for the Kepler Intercollegiate. The Hoosiers will tee it up at the Ohio State Scarlet Golf Course on Saturday-Sunday, April 17-18.
