Indiana, Ford First After Day One of Lady Boilermaker

West Lafayette, Ind. - The Indiana women's golf team, ranked 37th in the nation by Golfweek/Sagarin, finished day one of the Lady Boilermaker Invitational Saturday, April 17, six shots ahead of the rest of the field.
Throughout the Hoosiers' campaign this year, consistency has been a struggle for Indiana, but that was not the case Saturday at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The Hoosiers carded a pair of 298s for a 596 total, six shots ahead of Michigan State's 602 (299-303).
Perhaps the brightest note for IU after day one was the play of senior Danah Ford. Ford shot an amazing 139 (71-68) to lead the field by nine strokes. Ford set a new career-best 18 and 36-hole total. Ford will be looking to win her first career individual title when she tees of the final round.
Two other Hoosiers sit in the top 10 after two rounds. Senior Ambry Bishop is in seventh place at 150 (74-76). Her 150 sets a new career 36-hole total for Bishop. The Franklin, Ind., native looks for her first top-10 finish of the season. Senior Karen Dennison is tied for eighth at 151 (75-76).
Sophomore Molly Redfearn is tied for 30th at 158 (78-80), while senior Mary Lidester is one shot back at 159 (81-78), tied for 33rd. Junior Bethany Brunner is tied for 53rd at 166 (85-81).
Indiana concludes the Lady Boilermaker Invitational tomorrow with the final 18 holes. The Hoosiers will be set to tee off for the first tee beginning at 8:54 a.m. CST with Brunner, and the last Hoosier to tee off with be Ford at 9:39 a.m. Indiana will be playing the final round paired with Michigan State, who is in second, and host Purdue, in third.
