Bloomington, Ind. - Members of the Indiana Track and Field Team competed at both the Nebraska Quadrangular and the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday.
With nearly the whole men's team competing at the Nebraska Quadrangular, the throwers stole the show. Ryan Ketchum finished third in both the shot put and discus, posting NCAA Regional qualifying marks in both events, turning in a 17.90m/58-08.75 in the shot put and a 53.74m/176-04 in the discus. His effort in the discus marked a new personal best and is the third longest throw of any Big Ten student-athlete this outdoor season.
Also posting NCAA Regional qualifying marks were Jake Wiseman, who finished second in the javelin with a personal-best 62.24m/204-02 and Wil Fleming, who took third in the hammer throw with a personal-best 60.54m/198-07.
All-American jumper Aarik Wilson did not compete in either the long jump nor the triple jump, and sophomore David Neville, III did not compete in his signature event, the 200m. Both were in action however, with Wilson finishing 11th in the 100m with an 11.19 and taking 15th in the 200m with a 22.53 and Neville running the third leg of the 4x400m relay squad that finished second with a 3:11.61.
At the Mt. SAC Relays in California, Sean Jefferson, the 2004 NCAA Indoor National Champion in the 1500m won his section and finished second in the event (out of 122 competitors) by running a personal-best 3:40.90. That mark is the second-fastest time in the nation this year, behind only BYU's Nathan Robinson, who ran a 3:40.89 in a different section Saturday. Brothers Rodney and Russell Hollis both competed in the 800m, with Rodney finishing in 12th place with a time of 1:51.09 and Russell taking 21st with a 1:51.85 mark. Rodney has already qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet by virtue of the 1:48.69 he ran at the Stanford Invitational. That time is the fastest in the Big Ten this year and ranks ninth nationally.
