West Lafayette, Ind. - The Indiana women's golf team struggled in the final round to finish in second place, behind Michigan State. Senior Danah Ford on the other hand, was able to hold on after yesterday, and win her first career individual title.
Ford entered the round nine strokes ahead of the rest of field, and was able to hold on and win the event by three strokes. Ford shot a three-round total 221 (71-68-82) to finish ahead of Northwestern's Alice Kim at 224.
"It's awesome to win being the last tournament at Purdue," Ford said. "It was very surreal. It was a very cool experience being my last tournament at IU. I feel like I have been patient all during my college career, and even this year with ups and downs, and coming close a couple of times. To finally get a win, it was that much better, because I had waited so long."
Senior Karen Dennison continued her stretch of top-10 finishes to four tournaments, finishing the Lady Boilermaker in a tie for fourth. Dennison was the only Hoosier to shoot under 80 in the third round.
Senior Ambry Bishop had a season best 233 (74-76-83), to finish in a tie for 14th, her best finish of the season. Sophomore Molly Redfearn also finished in the top-30, with a 242 (78-80-84), good enough for a tie for 29th.
Rounding out the Indiana lineup at the Lady Boilermaker were junior Bethany Brunner and senior Mary Lidester. Brunner finished tied for 44th with 249 (85-81-83), and Lidester finished tied for 49th at 251 (81-78-92).
Indiana will be back on the links next weekend for Big Ten Championships. The Ohio State University will be hosting the three-day event beginning on Friday, April 23, at the OSU Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
