Dennison Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana women's golfer Karen Dennison becomes the first Hoosier to be named Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the 2004 season after her performance at the Indiana Invitational on April 3-4. This is the first Golfer of the Week honor for Dennison in her career, and only the second time a Hoosier has garnered the honor. Natalie Tucker captured Indiana's first Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor for the week of March 28, 2001, after her performance at the San Antonio Shootout.
"This is a honor," said Dennison. "There are so many good players in the Big Ten, and for me to receive this honor is special. I worked extra hard with Coach Carmichael last week to improve my swing."
Dennison, a native of Madison, Ind., won the individual honors at the Indiana Invitational as the only player in the field, which included six Big Ten programs, to finish under par with a four-under-par 218 (76-71-71).
This marks the second time this season she has captured individual honors and the sixth of her career. This was Dennison's first Indiana Invitational win in four attempts. Her best finish previously was in a tie for fifth in 2002. She became the ninth Hoosier to capture individual honors at the Indiana Invitational, as she set a new Indiana individual 54-hole total at the Indiana Invitational with a 218.
Up next, Dennison and the Hoosiers head to West Lafayette to compete in the Lady Boilermaker Invitational. The event will be held at Kampen Golf Course on Saturday-Sunday, April 17-18.
