Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana senior outside hitter Christina Archibald has been selected to the Preseason All-Big Ten team, it was announced by the Conference on Monday. Archibald is one of 12 players on the team from nine different League institutions.
Last season Archibald led IU with 468 kills, the third straight season she has led the team in the category. She posted 4.07 kills per game, 1,184 attempts and 26 service aces. The Belleville, Ill., native needs just 161 kills to break the career mark set by former Hoosier Melissa Brewer last year.
"We're looking forward to Christina having her best season ever. She has really gained in leadership and on-court presence. With her on the court as our go-to player, we look forward to a great season," said head coach Katie Weismiller.
Joining Archibald on the team is Erin Virtue (Illinois, setter); Jennifer Gandolph (Michigan, outside hitter); Kim Schram (Michigan State, outside hitter); Paula Gentil (Minnesota, libero); Erin Martin (Minnesota, outside hitter); Stacey Gordon (Ohio State, outside hitter); Ashley Pederson (Penn State, outside hitter); Cassy Salyer (Penn State, middle hitter); Sam Tortorello (Penn State, setter); Renata Dargan (Purdue, setter); and Jill Odenthal (Wisconsin, opposite hitter).
