Strickland Nets Eight in Victory

Casale Monferrato, Italy - The 2004 Big Ten Foreign Tour Team ran its record to a perfect 3-0, as the Big Ten defeated Marina Traviglia Basketball Club 95-74 today. Indiana junior guard Marshall Strickland chipped in with eight points, two steals and a rebound in the victory.The Big Ten struggled at the start of the game as Traviglia took a 21-16 lead at the end of the first period. The Big Ten would storm back, outscoring Traviglia 24-14 in the second period to take a 40-35 lead into the half.
The Big Ten put the game away in the third period, as they outscored the Italians 33-14 to take a 24-point lead, 73-49.
Four Big Ten players scored in double figures, led by Wisconsin's Clayton Hanson's 17 points. He also notched four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Delco Rowley of Michigan State had 14 points and six rebounds, while Penn State's Marlon Smith and Iowa's Adam Haluska followed with eight points apiece.
Northwestern's Davor Duvancic nearly finished with a double-double ending the night with eight points and 10 rebounds.
The Big Ten Squad, led by Penn State assistant coach Kurt Kanaskie, will stay in Italy for the final two games of its five-game Mediterranean tour. The team will travel to Casalpusterlengo on Wednesday to face the Casalpusterlengo Basketball Club, and will finish out the summer event on Thursday in Cremona against the Cremona Basketball Club.
