Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana freshman center Robert Rothbart has elected to bypass his collegiate basketball career so he can pursue professional playing opportunities in Europe, Hoosier head coach Mike Davis announced today."While this is a big loss for our program, we respect Robert's decision and wish him nothing but the best," Davis said.
Ranked 11th among senior centers and 99th overall by Rivals.com, Rothbart averaged 21 points, a California state-leading 15 rebounds and five blocked shots per game as a senior at Natomas High School in Sacramento, Calif. In addition to earning Sierra Foothill League MVP and All-Metro honors from The Sacramento Bee, Rothbart was invited to play in the Derek Anderson Derby Festival Classic April 24 in Louisville, but he declined. Rothbart spent his junior season at Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, Calif., where he averaged 26 points, 14 rebounds and 5.5 blocks per game.
A native of Yugoslavia who also holds citizenship in Bosnia and Israel, Rothbart and his family immigrated to the United States when he was eight years old.
