Strickland Concludes Foreign Tour

Cremona, Italy - Indiana junior Marshall Strickland scored 11 points and added three rebounds as his Big Ten Foreign Tour Team dropped a hard-fought 80-74 decision to the Cremona Basketball Club of Cremona, Italy, today in the final game of itsfive-game tour.
Brandon McKnight (South Bend, Ind.) of Purdue led the team with a strong 14-point performance. The talented point guard also led the Big Ten with five assists. Minnesota's Dan Coleman (Minneapolis, Minn.) had a solid game with 13 points. Clayton Hanson (Reedsburg, Wis.) of Wisconsin and Strickland (Winfield, Md.) had 11 points as well.
Cremona outscored the conference unit 17-11 in the first quarter and held a 39-36 edge at the half. The Big Ten closed the margin to two, 57-55, at the end of the third, but could not overcome the first quarter cold snap as Cremona held on for the win. The Big Ten was beset with cold shooting, hitting only 22 of 55 shots, including 11 of 30 treys.
Michigan State's Delco Rowley (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Hanson led the Big Ten with six rebounds apiece. Penn State guard Marlon Smith (Bronx, N.Y.) had nine points, three boards and an assist while Iowa's Adam Haluska (Carroll, Iowa) had six points, one rebound, one assist and a team-best two steals.
The conference squad had 35 rebounds and only 10 assists, its lowest assist total of the tour.
The Big Ten Touring Team, led by Penn State assistant Kurt Kanaskie (who was filling in for Lion mentor Ed DeChellis), ended their five game schedule with a 3-2 mark. Strickland completed the trip average 10.4 points per game. The team will return home on Friday.
