Hoosiers top Cardinals, 2-1

After both teams played to a scoreless first half, IU got onto the board first with a goal from sophomore Morgan Miller off of assists from sophomore Lydia Schrott and freshman Meredith Brown, 17 minutes into the second half.
"In the first half we came out much like yesterday a little flat," Indiana head coach Amy Robertson said. "In the second half we made more adjustments and were more aggressive."
IU extended its lead to 2-0 when freshman Kate O'Connell scored her first career goal off for an assist from junior Mallory Reabold at the 65th minute mark.
Stanford denied goalkeeper Katie Kanara her first shutout of the season when they scored a goal in the 67th minute.
IU controlled the majority of the match out shooting the Cardinal, 16-5, including an 8-4 mark in shots on goal and held a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners.
"Today we made a lot of subs, players like Lindsey Nealis, O'Connell and Nikki Orciuch played great and made a huge difference." Robertson said.
Kanaka recorded three saves in the net for the victory.
"We have high expectations for this season," Robertson said. "For the second game of the year we saw some good things.
Indiana returns to action of Friday, Sept. 3 when they play host to Ball State in the home opener at 3 p.m. at the Mellencamp Pavilion.
