Overton Qualifies for U.S. Amateur

Normal, Ill. - Indiana men's golfer Jeff Overton fired a course record 7-under-par 64 and claimed medalist honors in qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday at the Illinois State University Golf Course.
The second team All-America selection fired a 67 in his afternoon round, giving him a two-round 131 total. Overton shot his 64 in the morning, breaking the previous course record of 66.
Overton, who is the No. 7 ranked amateur in the U.S., finished four strokes ahead of the second qualifier in the 56-golfer field, Brian Anderson.
The U.S. Amateur will be held from August 16-22 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaronek, N.Y.
In other IU golf news, sophomore Brad Marek made the cut at the Illinois Open. The Arlington Heights, Ill., native sits in a tie for 40th place at 146 (75-71).
