Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Indiana women's golf team is in 15th place after the first two rounds of the Lady Northern Saturday afternoon at the U-M Golf Course, The Hoosiers fired a two-round total of 651, as first-year head coach Clint Wallman continues to emphasize how important fall tournament preparation is for the spring season.
"I think this is a challenging course and a great way to prepare for the Big Ten Championships (April 22-24, 2005)," Wallman said. "We hit a lot of good shots and made some good decisions, and we continue to learn about this course."
Fifth-year senior Bethany Brunner is Indiana's top individual through the first two rounds, shooting 164 (80-84). Lissa Putnam is right behind Brunner at 185 ((85-80). Wallman also cited freshman Elaine Harris and junior Katie Carlson for solid first and second rounds, respectively. Harns fired a first round 78 in her collegiate debut, while Carlson hit an 80 in the second round.
"The greens on this course are very severe," Wallman said. "If you hit the wrong spot, you could be severely penalized. But Elaine and Katie made some good decisions and put themselves in a spot for birdies."
The third and final round of The Lady Northern gets underway on Sunday.
