Murphy's Goal Lifts IU in OT

"We found a way to win today," head coach Amy Robertson said. "We struggled at times today to find the ball and attack. We seemed to get better as the game went on. We did some nice things today."
IU got onto the board first five minutes into the match when freshman Meredith Brown scored a goal off assists from sophomore Lydia Schrott and junior Lesley Wiler. Brown's shot was the only shot taken by the Hoosiers in the first half.
Late into the second period, Louisville tied the game up with a goal from Suzanne Irwin at the 68th minute.
In the overtime period, IU turned up the offensive pressure as they attempted five shots in the period. In the first 70 minutes of action, IU was held to a total of two shots.
"We had a plan for the overtime period and we executed it great," Robertson said. "We were poised with ourselves in the overtime period."
In the 81st minute, Murphy took the ball and fired it from the top of the circle past the goalie for the game winner.
"She had the shot, took it and scored," Robertson said. "It was a beautiful shot and she placed it where it needed to be."
Indiana, who entered the Louisville game, averaging a Big Ten leading, 22.5 shots per game were held to seven. Louisville had nine, including five shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Katie Kanara had four saves in the win.
"Katie did a unbelievable job of knocking down shots today," Robertson said. " She was the difference maker today."
The Hoosiers return to action, Saturday afternoon when they face William & Mary at 2 p.m. in Louisville, Ky. in Trager Stadium.
