Notre Dame Invitational Second Round Recap

Kent State leads the field, as a second round score of 293 put its two round total at 580, which is 11 strokes better than second place Colorado (591). Michigan State is one stroke behind the Buffaloes at 592, and Texas Tech is fourth at 593. Indiana and Notre Dame are tied for fifth at 598.
After shooting an opening round 304 on Friday, IU bounced back and hit 294 in the second round. Overton's 70 puts him in a tie for 14th individually, while Brad Marek turned in a second round 71. Freshman Santiago Quirarte was the third Indiana individual on Saturday, firing a second round 74.
While Indiana coach Mike Mayer was pleased with his team's progress on Saturday, he is looking for balanced effort in Sunday's third and final round.
"It was nice to see a really solid round from Jeff Overton," Mayer said. "He's getting close, but he's not quite at his usual form. After an opening round, 81, Brad Marek also made a nice comeback. Santiago is also playing well.
"We just couldn't quite put it all together today," Mayer continued. "We gained some ground on the scoreboard, but we could have made a statement had we gotten that fourth score in there, This is a very good field with a lot of tough teams. We have to come out on Sunday and play hard, tough and smart."
