BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University football team will play its season opener at home on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. The Hoosiers are the only Big Ten team returning at least nine starters on both sides of the ball.
Central Michigan, under first-year head coach Brian Kelly, finished last season with a 3-9 record. Kelly comes to CMU after a 13-year stint at Division II Grand Valley State, where his last two teams won national championships.
This will be the second all-time meeting between the two teams, with the Hoosiers claiming a 39-29 victory at home in 2001.
Senior defensive lineman Jodie Clemons, senior safety Herana-Daze Jones, senior wide receiver Courtney Roby and junior running back Yamar Washington discuss the season opener.
On the Central Michigan game this weekend:
Jodie Clemons: "We know that it's going to be a big challenge this weekend. They are a smaller school than us, but we know that they will be up for the game. One of the challenges will be up front for the defensive lineman. We are taking it all into account. We know that they are a physical team up front, but we are looking forward to a good game."
Herana-Daze Jones: "We looked at what they did at Grand Valley State and tried to see if they had some carry over. We watched a lot of film, and we are trying to prepare as best we can. Everyone has been really focused at practice and is ready to play."
Courtney Roby: "I'm tired of hitting teammates and tired of getting hit by teammates. I'm ready to get the season going.
Central Michigan has a new coaching system, but what I have seen of them on film they are a good team. We are going to go into the game, play hard and do out best to come out with a victory. Central Michigan is going to play hard as well; it should be an exciting game."
Yamar Washington: "It's our home opener and every game is precious. We want to be crisp, and do everything right, from the beginning of the game. "
