Overton, IU in Preseason Rankings

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - With the 2004 fall men's golf season one week away, Golf World and Golfweek have released their preseason polls. Senior Jeff Overton is recognized by both publications, and Indiana is receiving votes in the Golf World preseason Coaches Poll.
Overton is ranked fourth on Golf World's "Top 50 Male Players to Watch" list. Ryan Moore, the UNLV senior and winner of the recent U.S. Amateur championship is No. 1 followed by Spencer Levin (New Mexico), John Holmes (Kentucky), Overton and Luke List (Vanderbilt). Aron Price (Georgia Southern), Alejandro Canizares (Arizona State), Anthony Kim (Oklahoma), Matt Every (Florida) and Jack Ferguson (Clemson) round out the top 10.
Golfweek ranks Overton on its preseason All-American first team. The semifinalist at this year's U.S. Amateur is joined by Moore, Levin, Ferguson, Holmes, List, Every, Kim, Michael Putnam (Pepperdine) and Price.
As a team, the Hoosiers were receiving votes in the Golf World top 25, which is topped by Georgia. The Bulldogs received the most first-place votes, while Florida and Georgia Tech are tied for second in the ranking. Rounding out the top 10 is: (4) Arizona; (5) Oklahoma State; (6) Southern California; (7) UNLV; (8) Texas; (9) Clemson; (10) Arizona State.
Overton and the Hoosiers open their fall campaign at the Michigan-Radrick Farms Intercollegiate in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 11-12.
