IU Open Big Ten Against MSU

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Hoosiers open their 2004 Big Ten schedule this Saturday, Sept. 25, against the Michigan State Spartans at 11 a.m. EST/Noon EDT at Memorial Stadium. The MSU-IU game will be available live on ESPN GamePlan, and WTTV-Channel 4 will carry the game tape delay at 8 p.m. The game will be carried live on the IU Radio Network with Don Fischer (play-by-play), Dan Thompson (color) and Joe Smith (pregame, halftime, post-game).
IU enters the game with a 2-1 mark, while MSU travels to Bloomington with a 1-2 ledger. The Hoosiers will look to rebound after a 51-32 loss on the road last weekend to Kentucky. The Spartans enter the game after falling 31-24 at home to Notre Dame last Saturday. MSU opened the year with a 19-14 loss on the road to Rutgers, but bounced back and defeated Central Michigan, 24-7.
The Hoosiers look to win their Big Ten opener for the first time since the 2000 season, a 45-33 win at home over Iowa. IU will need to continue its strong play in the red zone, having converted on 90.9 percent (10-11) of its chances to this point in the season.
Indiana has scored 30 or more points in all three of its games this year. IU is 5-3 under head coach Gerry DiNardo when it scores 30 points or more.
This will be the 53rd meeting between the teams and the 49th contest in the "Old Brass Spittoon" series. The spittoon has been awarded to the winner of the Indiana/Michigan State football game since the trophy's inception in 1950. The spittoon has made the trip to Bloomington and will be awarded to the winning team at the conclusion of the game. MSU leads the all-time series 36-14-2 and won last year's meeting in East Lansing.
Note: Tomorrow's game against Michigan State has been designated Hoosier Military Heroes Day. Any active or retired military members can get a free ticket for themselves and up to four $10 tickets for their family by showing their military ID.
